If It Gets THAT Bad - Flee Your Toxic Law Firm Through LawyerUp App

Yes, it could get that bad. The kind of bad former chair of Proskauer Allen Fagin sketches out in Law.com. He had been in the that bad of The Great Recession.

So, Fagin posits about the now: Suppose Profits Per Equity Partner plunge at certain law firms two digits. Like 40%. Simultaneously the value of equty partners' houses could go under water.

All could be worsened if, as Paul Weiss chair Brad Karp warned in a Bloomberg Law interview, the brandnames who bring in and hold onto the business lateral elsewhere. The firm could actually go kaput. The game operates on the wattage of star power. Incidentally, Karp was also around in 2008. He made it his mission not to terminate associates. He had just been voted in by the partners.

Meanwhile, if the that bad unfolds meanness could be unleashed throughout the firm. That happens all the time in all sectors.

If the law-firm culture goes totally toxic all classifications of workers - partners, associates, paralegals, IT fxits, and human resources counselors - might want to flee.

Traditionally they would hit the recruiters, right.

However, recruiters, once you loop in with them, can be an annoying group. Forever tormenting you with emails. Professional anonymous networks such as Reddit Big Law and Fishbowl Big Law are not kind to them.

Now there is an alternative, reports UK legal tabloid RollonFriday. One of the few digital sites which still uses snark, it gleefully describes new recruitment app LawyerUp. The message is: These folks are not, well, you know …

Available through Apple Store and Google Play, the LawyerUp app is free to anyone in the legal sector. Not just lawyers. It’s global. It takes about 20 seconds to sign in and at the time you are anonymous and don't need to file a CV. Only after you spot something on your phone that you would like to find out more about do you have to pony up your information. Here you can take a look at it.

With the perfect storm of accelerated stress in the legal sector along with more and more being forced out (or anticipating that tap on the shoulder) right from the get-go LawyperUp has caught fire.

However, I tell those I coach: When changing jobs or changing careers, you are exchanging one set of problems for another set. It really comes down to that. Should I be a cynic and say: Choose your poison? Probably not. However, over and over we hear about laterals having a beast of a time acclimating to another law firm. And too often they are tossed out of what they envisioned as Paradise Found.

If the meanness has already started to filter throughoout the ether or you are realistically concerned about job security it’s smart to check out LawyerUp. Also you can contact me for a complimentary consultation. I was around as career coach and Mom back in 2008 – 2009. Most actually knew what to do. What they needed was to pop up on Mom’s lap for a bit and just feel safe. In the industry I am known as Mama Genova. (For an appointment janegenova374@gmail.com)
