Howard Stern Nails It - Tucker Carlson (and the rest of us employees/vendors) Are Mere Worker Bees

So was cable broadcasting genius Roger Ailes. That is, a mere worker bee. The Murdochs also sent that high money-maker packing after law firm Paul Weiss parachuted in to investigate alleged sexual misconduct. And that was that. Ailes relocated from the world headquarters for media - Manhattan - to Florida. 

Over and over coaches such as myself explain to workers and vendors that they are expendable. No, don't assume you belong as an insider. No, don't entertain the fantasy that you cannot be replaced. In short, you are not special.

There is that question: Is any talent unique? Maybe yes or maybe not. But with adequate resources any organization can search for and find who will fill the gap. That could even be made easier with the capabilities of generative AI. That star programmer? AI ChatGPT can probably do the coding faster - also most likely better, at least when version 5 comes along.

Before the late 20th century careerism ushered in the expectation that the right degrees, titles, hard work, and protection from above could make one untouchable we were socialized to be right-sized. We knew we were simply cogs in the wheel of capitalism. That underlied the mandate that we fit it, be cautious, learn to manage the boss. 

A few such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates got to play beyond that circumscribed sandbox. That's exactly when the oppressed and those fearing about becoming oppressed have made it their mission to become founders. Even in these tough times for funding, founders are still our heroes. One of my coaching clients is struggling to found a new kind of laundry. 

So, here we are again with the brutal Ah-Ha that we (with the exception of founders), as Stern hammers, are worker bees.

The future? It might be members of Gen Z who end the professional mythology that they, as workers/vendors, matter. According to managers, a lot of Zers aren't investing themselves into going for the supposed goodies of being a careerist.

That generation could wind up transitioning to being recipients of Universal Basic Income. Yes, take the government stipend and opt not to work. So many traditionalists, many of them bible-readers, forget that before the fall described in "Genesis," mankind didn't have to work. In the Old Testament, work had been positioned and packaged as a curse upon civilization.
