GUILTY! Turning Out to Be Mere Media Event - The Commonsense Hedge

"Wall Street Billionaires Are Rushing to Back Trump, Verdict Be Damned"

 Bloomberg, May 31, 2024

Fundraising has also picked up dramatically. And even media, which made hay from this development, is not necessarily throwing shade on the ability of convicted felon Donald Trump to win the election. Democrats who have been warned, for instance by influencer O'Dwyer's Kevin McCauley, to nudge Joe Biden off the ticket should feel no sense of relief.

Obviously Trump's effective spin machine can continue positioning and packaging Trump as a political martyr and more. I grew up in the Frank Hague political machine in Jersey City, New Jersey. This is how things can go. In fact, Hague had been quoted as declaring: I am the law.

This reality has serious implications for sectors and professionals who require outreach into the Beltway. If they don't manifest support for Trump and other conservatives they could be left out into the cold. The changing of the guard after an election can be brutal in terms of who gets chased out of town and who gets locked out.

A blatant example of this vulnerability are the large law firms whose signature is embracing progressive stances. Open Secrets documents that they are major contributors to the Democratic Party. Some play it safe with also hefty contributions the the Republican Party. They range from Kirkland & Ellis to Akin Gump. In contrast Paul, Weiss and Covington are among those whose political donations are primarily for the Democratic Party.

Fundraising not only empowers a party to tell its story. Publicity in all mediums is expensive. The amount of it is also dutifully reported by media as a sign of the strength of the campaign. It seems like a commonsense hedge for sectors like law firms which are dependent on access in Washington DC to ramp up contributions to conservatives.

As for the macro takes on the guilty verdict, it's being recommended that can come from following international media such as Financial Times. So much for that. But the election will be decided by voters within the US.

In my coaching I increasingly emphasize political dynamics. They can shape a career more than knowledge base, hard work or even achievements. About the latter, myriad professionals get turned down for promotions because they played the political game very wrong.
