As for the overall freelance or contract economy, LinkedIn had documented its growth in 2023 - and had been optimistic about its expansion in the future. 

Many who are out there hawking their services as a contractor right now might not anticipate such a rosy future. Even in the once-lucrative niche of Influencer there are reports from resume-preparers that there is a flight back to seeking out traditional full-time jobs. Among those I coach the preference is to hang on to the full-time position they have. I don't hear dreams about the wonderful flexibility of being a freelancer.

Gen AI could be triggering a paradigm shift in how people earn a living. Shrinking could be the number of those in the freelance pool. In the legal sector, on professional anonymous networks such as Reddit and Fishbowl, there are warnings about opportunities for contract document reviewing no longer as plentiful. Gen AI is notorious for taking over those lower-value tasks.

One obvious solution is to train or reskill for the trades. In those blue-collar fields there are jobs - good ones. Another is become certified for full-time positions in healthcare. A third is to develop advanced skills in gen AI applications.

   It had been way back more than a year ago that first-year associate at law firm Akin Gump Julia Ghahramani died from cocaine laced with fentanyl. Yet that story keeps resurfacing.  This week  RollonFriday  revisits it. Up-or-Out: McKinsey Raises the Pressure, In Contrast Some Law Firms Ease It through Nonequity Partner Tier
