Are Orca Whales Eco-Warriors? - And Lessons on the Effectiveness of Working Together

“'To me, they [the Orca whales] were not playing at all, they knew exactly what they were doing. They knew the weak points of the boat, and they knew how to sink it,' Powell, who was meant to be celebrating his birthday aboard the boat [said]." - New York Post, July 27, 2024

Robert Powell is the former owner of $128k luxury yacht Bonhomme William. By "they knew exactly what they were doing" Powell refers to the efficient and effective division of labor by the five Orca whales (largest members of the dolphin family). Each whale focused on a different section of the yacht. Within two hours, the whales had completed their mission. Bonhomme William sunk.

Powell suspects this pod could be responsible for other attacks on boats in European waters.

Could it be that the Orca is a type of eco-warrior? As OceanWeb documents, yachts are major sources of enviromental problems. Those extend from the amount of diesel they consume to the amount of waste they create, especially in plastic.

Another theory is that whales were just out for a little fun. I opt for the environmental pushback explanation for the Orca behavior.

In my intuitive coaching, I guide clients how to form alliances to achieve their objectives. Man is a political animal. BTW, so it seems are the Orca whales.

What has recently transformed Election 2024 for the obviously failing Democratic Party has been the new fierce unity. That extends from motivating Joe Biden to step down to getting buy-in for Kamala Harris from the influential Obamas to lifting Harris into a force field of extreme visibility.

About the latter: That kind of Harris Everywhere exposure takes money, lots of it. The fundraising has been rapid and effective. In less than 48 hours the Harris campaign brought in a $100 million. In the front lines of that fundraising law firm Paul, Weiss chair Brad Karp noted that this could be the most expensive election in history.

In contrast, the GOP seems to be fragmenting. One issue is the perception by some of JD Vance as a liability on the ticket. Another is the assessment of not enough course course correction by Donald Trump in his campaigning MO post Biden's withdrawal from seeking reelection. The next big political announcement should be an upheaval in the Trump campaign. It could be Vance's offering to step down.

Meanwhile the Orca could become a symbol for us of activism that works. Woke hasn't, has it.
