OpenAI Expanding Its Footprint: Takes on LinkedIn, Positions Itself as Good Guy in the Economy

Like the big players in tech, OpenAI will be creating a kind of walled garden. Come visit - and hang around. No need to go elsewhere for what counts.

By mid 2026, businesses and individuals can go to it for hiring associated with AI skills as well as becoming certified at all levels of AI fluency.

If it sounds like OpenAI is taking on Microsoft's LinkedIn, you got that right. To be doing a job search on OpenAI could be the new cool in tech. And, if it looks like OpenAI is taking the sting out of how AI could eliminate jobs, you got that right too. So many new opportunities are being created in this economy, right.

In a blog post, Fidji Simo - CEO of Applications at Open Air - announces the OpenAI Jobs Platform and OpenAI Certifications. A launch partner for the latter is Walmart. The headline for the posting is:

Expanding economic opportunity with AI

The tone of the posting is conversational, me and you. It's starts out with a I-know-how-you-feel:

"Whenever I talk with people about AI, one of the first questions I get is: 'What’s it going to mean for my job?' or 'How will it impact my company?'"

This is brilliant public relations. Lobbyists advocating against AI could encounter fresh obstacles in moving the needle on constraints.

In coaching I hammer that having advanced AI skills as part of credentials is expected. No longer a point of differentiation.

Thrown off your game, maybe the first time since you started working? You made all the right moves and then the world moved in another direction.
