Vogue - Nepo Baby Chloe Malle Gets Plum Job on the Titanic

 How delicious it is for those who aren't members of what infamous mayor of Providence, Rhode Island - Buddy Cianci - called with overwhelming resentment the "lucky sperm club." That is the appointment of Nepo Baby Chloe Malle to the doomed role of Editor of Vogue. Malle's mom is actress Candice Berger and dad film maker Louis Malle. Actually, as Variety reports, Malle says she is proud of being a Nepo. 

Okay. But, the gallows humor can be that she has been given one of the best jobs on the Titanic. 

Working-class publication the New York Post has lots of bad things to say about the business, cultural relevance and tone of Vogue. 

In the business, the September edition, which used to have 1,000 pages, only carries 365. Obviously, there's advertiser flight. 

In Vogue's place in the fashion world you might say we've already entered fourth-wave feminism. Females have become confident in their ability to spot what works in personal fashion and aren't sheepish about finding those gems without paying a king's ransom. Thrift shops have evolved into total cool. Here's the used jacket I grabbed, before anyone else spotted it, at Clothing Exchange in a border town in Arizona. For 20 bucks.

As for the tone, aloof is so over. Maybe that went out when not-there Princess Grace started gaining weight and seemed bored with the Prince. We want the accessible American Sweetheart type like Taylor Swift. She engages with us. We know if we were in a store trying on stuff she would take the time to gently let us know if that made us look fat.

What's peculiar about the collapse of the Vogue mystique is that so many other iconic institutions have quickly caught up with the times.

If I'm going to consume all those calories I'll pop the 10 bucks to buy the gourmet version at the deli.

In addition, here we are with the issue of the supposed unfair advantage Nepos have in professional life. In itself the selection of Malle might have been so wrong. Who might have been able to move the needle on making Vogue great again would have been a talented writer/editor in style who had been first-generation-college in one of those fly-over state schools. She knows us. 

In coaching, despite all the fear about being able to earn a living, I observe that those succeeding have a startup mindset. Actually, those with startup experience are in more demand that those who have the Microsofts and Googles on their resumes.
