BoomerVille: World on Fire, But Stock Market Keeps Bull Run

To some it's that bad: the geopolitical chaos associated with Greenland, Iran and Venezuela. They have told me that they even have stopped watching the news. The world seems on fire. But the stock market keeps rising, not crashing because of the Trump administration's statements about what it intends to do as it aims to establish a sphere of influence.

CNBC looked into this disconnect between global developments and equity markets. The headlining observation is by Benjamin Jones, head of global research at Invesco:

“Many geopolitical events are troubling, but markets are callous and only react meaningfully and sustainably when these events impact economic fundamentals or lead to a change in policy ..."

In addition, CNBC adds that where there is geopolitical risk, but not yet action taken, the market tends to chug along okay.

This morning futures are up. 

We Boomers who are monitoring our investments obsessively can't believe our good fortune. So far, so good. The hope is that the bull market will be sustained throughout 2026. That too has been unbundled from the dire job situation, along with the surge in personal bankruptcies and foreclosures on houses. 

Of course, not all Boomers are financially secure. Homelessness is growing among the aging. However, those of us who manage to pay our bills on time, still sock a little away and enjoy a lux now and then treasure our sense of being on the right side of the whatevers. We continue to labor for income essentially for a sense of purpose - and to delay digging into our assets. 

In my intuitive coaching/tarot reading I specialize in the over-50 segment. Most intend to start their own businesses or have already done that. There is no illusion about age bias. So brutal it has become that they are not seeking out new ways to get work with an employer by retraining. Popular is the solopreneur model. Identify a gap in what people want/need and figure out how to fill it.

Mr. Paul Weiss Goes to Washington

In college, backgrounders state that Brad Karp, the long-time chair of law firm Paul Weiss, toyed with the idea of a career path in politics. The specific focus was about running for Congress. Instead, though, he accepted admission to Harvard Law School (turned down the one to Yale) and that was that. Now, during the current crisis for law firms, under comprehensive attack by the Trump administration, Karp seems to be showcasing his inner politico. The guy is a smart strategist. Semafor reports that Karp has gone to Washington. There his objective seems to be to create lines of communication with a power force which, as Steve Bannon puts it, wants his firm and other elite firms out of business. Skadden's Rachel Cohen, Brave or Reckless? - Meanwhile Heat on CMOs to Position and Package Law Firms' Stances/Silence

Legacy media such as The New York Times, professional anonymous networks like Reddit and social media such as Blue Sky.
