Earning a Living in 2026: You Have to Get Smart Fast (no one cares)

In the 1993 film "A Bronx Tale" gangster Sonny makes the observation to the young Calogero: No one cares. The message is that you have to look out for yourself. So, be very smart.

In my intuitive coaching/tarot reading I am giving that lesson to those struggling to earn a living. That is, no one really cares. 

This is capitalism, an economic system based on the individual. Surviving/thriving essentially is up to you. 

Sure, others can provide guidance and support but you own the problem. And ranting on professional anonymous networks Reddit, Fishbowl, Glassdoor and Blind won't help, unless you are open to a solution. Anyway, The Atlantic documents folks are in no mood for venting, that is, "trauma dumping." Our society is in emotional overwhelm. Unless you bundle the situation with a solution, no one wants to hear it.

Given these realities it shouldn't be but it is that a rant on Reddit is about sitting around two years, for example, searching for a full time job or even gigs in content-creation. During those two years obviously the searcher for work wasn't getting smart. Otherwise they would have quickly had the Ah-Ah moments that what they were doing wasn't getting results. So, what could be their options?

Looking for work in different ways?

Biting the bullet and admitting that sector was contracting and investing in other ways to earn a living?

Grabbing a survival job/gig to restore confidence and give off again the vibe of being work-ready?

Instead, too often the attempt to earn a living again is based on external outreach. There is the desperate turning to others for support. That isn't productive networking. In networking you sell yourself as someone to connect with because you have something to offer the network. Then the work leads start coming your way. You are sized up as useful. 

The critical first step in landing work in this brutal labor market is getting it that this is an inside job. As Sonny hammered, no one cares. You have to be smart. No interviews in content-creation? What are realistic options for acquiring new skills? 

So, why go to go to a coach such as myself? The reason is to bring you back from being stuck in a time warp of how it used to be find, hold and move on to better work. That state of being is symbolized in the tarot by the Nine of Wands.


 

Notice the pain of confusion. Of being lost.

Mr. Paul Weiss Goes to Washington

In college, backgrounders state that Brad Karp, the long-time chair of law firm Paul Weiss, toyed with the idea of a career path in politics. The specific focus was about running for Congress. Instead, though, he accepted admission to Harvard Law School (turned down the one to Yale) and that was that. Now, during the current crisis for law firms, under comprehensive attack by the Trump administration, Karp seems to be showcasing his inner politico. The guy is a smart strategist. Semafor reports that Karp has gone to Washington. There his objective seems to be to create lines of communication with a power force which, as Steve Bannon puts it, wants his firm and other elite firms out of business. Legacy media such as The New York Times, professional anonymous networks like Reddit and social media such as Blue Sky.
