The Great Exodus to LCOL: Raw Necessity

In most fields, we learn the most from our clients/customers.

What I am learning is that the economy is currently bifurcated. There are those doing well and there are those struggling to make ends meet. Most recently many in the latter category have felt "forced" to uproot from HCOL (high cost of living) areas to LCOL (low cost of living) ones.

Already well-known is the migration from California. During 2024, 661,000 hit the exits. The popular LCOL destinations were mainly in the south and the southwest. They include South Carolina, Idaho and Tennessee. One client just opted for the extremely low rent in Little Rock, Arkansas.

This need to relocate, though, has been a necessity for a while with the aging of the workforce. The HCOL areas, such as most of California and the New York Metro area, have extreme ageism. In 2014, it was obvious to me that I had "aged out" of the NYC market. Somehow I conjured up the strength to move to Arizona where there is less age bias. I was back.

Unfortunately, the first relocation might not be the right fit. Mine wasn't. That's why it's common sense to rent not buy. Lower expectations about building a social network. That may take time or it may never happen. The reality is the difficulty of making close friends after the years of formal education. Also accept that you are the new kid on the block. You have to adjust to their norms. They're not going to adjust to you.

Success is a mental game. Failure comes from being done in by the “committee” in your head.

Together, we liberate your thinking. Then we change your story. And, unleash success. Meanwhile, we focus on bringing in income. That puts you in a position of strength.
