BloomerVille: Plans Undone and More, But Hold Trauma-Dumping

It's become an evening habit, after-6: checking market futures.

Right now (7:30 PM ET) here's what CNBC reports, with oil at $100 a barrel:

"Futures tied to the Dow fell 806 points, or 1.7%. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures each tumbled 1.5%."

For us in BoomerVille that can mean our plans for enjoying life a bit have been undone.

In a more bullish time for our investments some of us have been considering lux experiences. At the top of my list is touring the locations in which great British literature and dramas had been composed and played. Yes, I would take my time. So what for the cost of inns and hotels.

We are able to move on, aren't we. Obviously I am over being bitter that my doctoral studies in literature and linguistics didn't result in a tenure-track academic job. After all, tenure itself has become as much an anachronism as a traditional career path. At the University of Akron, of the 70 professors laid off, some were tenured.

Meanwhile I am grateful for small blessings.

All but a thousand bucks has been paid by my insurance for extensive dental work. When I found that out I shifted into micro euphoria. Bought grocery treats for both the dog and myself.

Another has been no trouble with the Toyota Pri that I purchased last fall. I had to junk the Smart Car I had just purchased six months earlier. Long story there, which I have learned to stop telling. The Atlantic documents that trauma-dumping has gone out of style. I wish some members of 12-step programs would be clued in about that.

A third high note is that investigating if the grass were greener has paid off. I spent several weekends cruising locations within 200 miles from my current residence. The grass wasn't greener. So, I save money by not considering relocation.

And all may not be lost. Jeffries predicts:

" ...a stock market rally to buck labor-market gloom and Iran war fears."

Success is a mental game. Failure comes from being done in by the “committee” in your head.

Together, we liberate your thinking. Then we change your story. And, unleash success. Meanwhile, we focus on bringing in income. That puts you in a position of strength.
