Taming of Fox - Tucker Carlson Out (but not likely finished)

There is fallout from the pricey settlement of Fox News with Dominion. 

Some speculated that legal development would have zero effect on how the divine right of media kings operated the popular cable news service. Then there was a factoring in of other pending lawsuits similar to Dominion's, along with a shareholder one contendng it was the leadership who got the corporation into all this legal soup.

So, yes, there seems to be a taming of Fox. A sign of that is this: Ratings-genius anchor Tucker Carlson is out, documents Mediaite. Before that Dominion settlement Carlson seemed untouchable.

Tucker has been a story of an amazing comeback. That return to visibility started with his participation in Dancing with The Stars. To me the gimmick seemed deeming. But, heck, it panned out. He got noticed. He aligned himself closely with Trump. And he came to "own" much of the viewership of Fox with his extreme right-of-center points of view.

For the May edition of Vanity Fair, Fox expert Gabriel Sherman warned that Rupert Murdoch’s overall influence and power in media is on the downswing. The article had been published before the Dominion settlement. Sherman, it turns out, is right.

Carlson is probably only the first victim of that shift. Other careers at Fox could end abruptly.

But, as I instruct my intuitive career coaching clients: It isn’t what happens to you. It’s how you handle it. Given that both Maga and Donald Trump the politico are in in transition, Carlson can rebrand himself and attach to a powerful organization.

Meanwhile, the Murdochs are no longer media royalty. The barbarians, armed with their teams of lawyers, have entered the gate. Perhaps lawyers have whizzed past media players in being the most powerful force in the world.

America Not Hiring in 2026: Back to Golden Age of Solopreneurs?

 For hiring, 2025 was a brutal year to search for a job. The Wall Street Journal reports that 2026 could be worse: "At a gathering of CEOs in Midtown Manhattan this month organized by the Yale School of Management, 66% of leaders surveyed said they planned to either fire workers or maintain the size of their existing teams next year. Scott Barshay's Leadership at Paul, Weiss Torpedoed, PR Nothing But a Joke, Sympathy for Brad Karp

  Last week was a bad, gone worse and worse, one for law firm Wachtell.   This week starts out as what could upend the new leadership of Scott Barshay (The Decider) at Paul, Weiss.  Today's very long-form article in The New York Times  by Michael Schmidt and Jessica Silver-Greenberg depicts Barshay negatively. Understatement. He is rolled out as one-dimensionally power-driven, abrasive, divisive and downright naive about the power of the media. About the latter, he blew off any concern about the media's response to the law firm's removing from the website the Center to Combat Hate.  An example of the beating delivered Barshay? Here is the NYT coverage of the response by some at Paul, Weiss when Barshay was hired: "But there was unease among some at Paul Weiss. Partners and associates learned from lawyers at Cravath that some people there were not unhappy to see Mr. Barshay go. His ego made him difficult to work with, the Paul Weiss lawyers were told."
