OMG, Boutique Wilkinson Stekloff's Bonuses Make Milbank Look Cheapo

 So here is the bonus scale from litigation boutique Wilkinson Stekloff, thanks to Abovethelaw:

  • Class of 2023: $26,250
  • Class of 2022: $$35,000
  • Class of 2021: $52,500
  • Class of 2020: $100,625
  • Class of 2019: $131,250
  • Class of 2018: $157,500
  • Class of 2017: $183,750
  • Class of 2016+: $201,250

It could take plenty of funds sucked away from Profits Per Equity Partner for the high-charging law firms in 2023 to match or whizz beyond that. They include Kirkland & Ellis, Paul, Weiss and Paul Hastings. 

But that could be a must. Otherwise there could be the flight of litigation talent to Wilkinson Stekloff as well to others who meet or beat that scale. Meanwhile, will Milbank start playing chicken with its financial resources, blow away Wilkinson Stekloff and kick off the bonus war of the century?

The bonuses will be distributed mid December.

So how many emergency partner meetings will be scheduled early this week in Big Law? While they are at it the partners can also take a look at the $10k salary boost Milbank has created. 

Such reviews might be downright painful for partners. So much could be coming out of their hide. Goodness me, what has happened to the divine right of kings. This probably is not the game they assumed they were signing up for.

In this current era of decadence in capitalism the ethos is: Follow the money. Guess calls already are going to recruiters from associates about how hiring might look for 2024 at Wilkinson Stekloff.

America Not Hiring in 2026: Back to Golden Age of Solopreneurs?

 For hiring, 2025 was a brutal year to search for a job. The Wall Street Journal reports that 2026 could be worse: "At a gathering of CEOs in Midtown Manhattan this month organized by the Yale School of Management, 66% of leaders surveyed said they planned to either fire workers or maintain the size of their existing teams next year. Scott Barshay's Leadership at Paul, Weiss Torpedoed, PR Nothing But a Joke, Sympathy for Brad Karp

  Last week was a bad, gone worse and worse, one for law firm Wachtell.   This week starts out as what could upend the new leadership of Scott Barshay (The Decider) at Paul, Weiss.  Today's very long-form article in The New York Times  by Michael Schmidt and Jessica Silver-Greenberg depicts Barshay negatively. Understatement. He is rolled out as one-dimensionally power-driven, abrasive, divisive and downright naive about the power of the media. About the latter, he blew off any concern about the media's response to the law firm's removing from the website the Center to Combat Hate.  An example of the beating delivered Barshay? Here is the NYT coverage of the response by some at Paul, Weiss when Barshay was hired: "But there was unease among some at Paul Weiss.
