Brit Legal Tabloid RollonFriday - Wait Until It Gets Wind of Kirkland & Ellis' Reported Negotiations with Trump Administration

Tabloids like sensationalism and on both sides of the Atlantic two of them are making merry with covering the deals several large law firms have made with the Trump Administration. In the US that's Abovethelaw. In the UK it's RollonFriday.

Today, predictably RollonFriday came out with a vilification of the negotiations Skadden, Willkie and Milbank had made with who it refers to as the Don. Nice photo of a character from "The Godfather" kissing the Don's ring. Of course, there's a drive-by hit on Paul Weiss. That law firm, once the champion of the most vulnerable, has become the bad guy.

A cute wrinkle is that RollonFriday posts a survey. You have two choices if you headed a law firm targeted by the Trump administration:

Tell the Don where to go, or

Bend the knee.

Obviously RollonFriday posted before it received the intel that Kirkland & Ellis has been reported to also be planning a "peace offering" to the Trump administration. That is supposed to head off an Executive Order. K&E is the largest (4,000 lawyers), most powerful and most financially successful firm in the world. It'll make terrific copy for the tabloids.

Poaching in Law Firm Sector Potentially Catastrophic When Clients Exit with Partners

" ...  when clients refuse to follow partners out of the firm ..." - Brad Karp, chair of Paul, Weiss, cites how that can mitigate the risks, ranging from branding to business development, associated with the massive poaching of law-firm stars. This observation by Karp is extracted from the panel's comments at the International Bar Association, May 15, 2024 and published in Law.com .  The panel of leaders focused on internal law-firm strategies to reduce partner flight. Essentially their consensus was this solution: creating a partner culture of belonging, purpose and equality. Akin Gump Julia Ghahramani's March 2021 Cocaine+ Death - So?

   It had been way back more than a year ago that first-year associate at law firm Akin Gump Julia Ghahramani died from cocaine laced with fentanyl. Yet that story keeps resurfacing.  This week  RollonFriday  revisits it. And  Reddit Big Law  considers the issue if the energy from cocaine is what's making possible those 2,500 hours billed in law firms.  Is what's keeping this on the radar the hunch that use of the illegal substance cocaine is common among those practicing law?
