That could be the meme for this volatile era for how to make it through everything from earning a living to deciding about relationships. That is, learn to get up and run. 

In my career coaching I am bearing witness to so much suffering by humans who remain in declining situations too long. On professional anonymous networks such as Reddit, Fishbowl, Blind and Glassdoor there are laments about how their sector is being downsized by cost-efficiency, Generative AI and more. They wonder what they should do. But usually they do nothing. Then comes the layoff, along with no way back in. Instead, like Ramesh, they should have got up and ran. 

Of course, they should be running toward something. What is The Next has to be on every worker's mind. 

The same applies to relationships. Hesitate and you could be in a disappointing one for years and years. Moving on means leveraging the lessons learned to increase the odds that the next will be more fulfilling.

Urgency has long been a fundamental of business. Speed is a competitive weapon. At Disney, CEO Bob Iger saved his legacy and the stock price by responding to how much the media landscape had changed.  

But in an individual's career or personal life such fast action had frequently been perceived as a negative. You had been socialized to "give it time." Ramesh may be liberating you from that programming.

Mr. Paul Weiss Goes to Washington

In college, backgrounders state that Brad Karp, the long-time chair of law firm Paul Weiss, toyed with the idea of a career path in politics. The specific focus was about running for Congress. Instead, though, he accepted admission to Harvard Law School (turned down the one to Yale) and that was that.
