Concern (including legal) about the Infinite Workday - Hey, That Could Get You Replaced by AI
No newsflash, lawyers are now discussing the legal risks employers take on when imposing the "infinite workday" on the workforce. That is, employees increasingly are expected to be always-on. There is no unplugging after leaving the workplace for the day.
Pre-AI that warning could be received by businesses as a sign that they better modify policies. No way did they want to become entangled in scrutiny by regulatory bodies or class action lawsuits. Thanks, law firms, for flagging us. Firms ranging from Proskauer to Paul Weiss have employment practices.
That is unlikely to happen with AI. Understanding of any legal risk could accelerate the movement of employers to introduce AI tools to eliminate the reality of the infinite workday for human workers. Those AI tools would operate continuously without any human balking about having to be always-on. And without any threat of regulatory or legal action.
My coaching is very pragmatic. Don't complain, I advise. If the situation is that toxic, hold on to what you got while you search for better options to earn a good living with some work-life balance.
