Kamala Harris' Memoir "107 Days" - 2 Scenarios, Both Bad for the Democratic Party
On September 23rd, Simon & Schuster will publish Kamala Harris' 320-page memoir "107 Days." As The New York Times reports, in the book Harris will present the "insider" account of her brief presidential campaign.
This could go either of 2 ways, neither good for the Democratic Party for the midterms and onto 2028.
One scenario is that it sells well. That means there will be yet another high-profile reminder of a major fail by the Democratic Party. Many other deconstructions have gone before this. They dished in great detail what they posit had gone very wrong. Will the Democrats wind up fighting the last war in the midterms and onward - until a Black Swan stops them?
In my coaching those who need a fresh start - as does the Democratic Party - the core obstacle is the reluctance to let go of what got them into the pickle. Actually, it's a reverse form of narcissism. Instead of thinking they're the greatest they are convinced they are the worst of the screw-ups. They wear us all out with their self-recriminations.
The other scenario is poor sales. That reinforces the image of this woman as a loser. The extension of that is this: Those who selected her are also losers.
Whatever the sales, isn't this whole enchilada a disservice to those who donated to the Harris campaign in a big way personally or were front-line fundraisers. They include Michael Bloomberg, Reid Hoffman and Brad Karp.
In addition, the media has started to run with the meme that Harris is currently jobless. Since she won't campaign to be governor of California she could remain out of work too long. Where's the concrete hustle for a reset?
Overall, memoirs are tricky business. Hillary Clinton has lost brand equity in continually rehashing her loss to Donald Trump. Sometimes the shade thrown is the lousy sales per se. In 2023, Paris Hilton's only sold 46,634 copies. Hey, Paris, you're aging out of being inherently interesting.
Unfortunately, there's more. Joe Biden is also working with a ghostwriter on his memoir ...
Thrown off your game, maybe the first time since you
started working? You made all the right moves and then the world moved in
another direction.
