Affordable Coffee, Electrical Outlets, Comfortable Sitting As Long as You Want: Is McDonald's Replacing Starbucks?

Last Sunday, on the South side of Toledo, Ohio we woke to a power outage. That meant no way to make coffee. Given the limits of the battery, we wouldn't have too much time accessing the internet. Not on our laptops. Not on our phones. The outage wouldn't get resolved until about noon.

Where did I hustle off to? It was to a McDonald's beyond the area of the outage. I didn't consider going to a Starbucks for the next five hours.

The price of coffee at McDonald's is no big deal.

There are electrical outlets by some tables.

No one seemed to notice that I was planted there so long. But the place was packed.

My only gripe was this: There was background music playing. That got in the way of doing tarot readings on a psychic line I use in addition to conducting private sessions and doing parties. When a call came in for my psychic services I had to rush out to my car and close the door. In my haste, yes, a few times I left the laptop on the table. It was still there when I returned.

When Toledo Edison texted that the power was back I had gotten done so much work on my laptop and business on my phone.

The last time I stopped by Starbucks? That was a few weeks ago. I found it difficult getting on the WiFi. So I didn't even bother looking around for an electrical outlet. I wasn't going to stay long. Forget focusing on digital whatever.

The place was empty except for one other person. No sense of being a part of.

And since as a Boomer I worry about outliving my money I resisted purchasing much.

The Next? Will I conduct individual coaching sessions at McDonald's, as I had years ago at Starbucks?

Interestingly, as I was driving across America in July I observed this going on in the early mornings at local McDonalds: Seniors would fill a table nursing a coffee and talking with their friends. The waitress knew their names. I now recommend to my isolated aging clients to form a group to meet at McDonald's. Regularly.

Thrown off your game, maybe the first time since you started working? You made all the right moves and then the world moved in another direction.
