BoomerVille: Fern Blew in Reversals of Fortune

 It's 7:15 PM ET. Dow futures are down 317 points or 0.06%. 



CNBC interprets that as: 

" ... traders braced for a big week, with key earnings reports and a U.S. monetary policy meeting."

Although earnings from giant players such as from Apple and Microsoft are supposed to be good investor concerns have attached to geopolitical tensions. Up to recently those have been unbundled from world stock markets. But last week began the losing on Wall Street.

In addition, as The Wall Street Journal reports the bloom is off on software stocks. That could be causing a reversal of fortune for some. If you fellow boomers own some of these your future might have taken on a bit of darkness: 

"Rocked by the emergence of “vibe coding”—the practice of using AI tools to quickly produce apps and websites—software heavyweights Salesforce CRM -0.02%decrease; red down pointing triangle, Adobe ADBE 0.45%increase; green up pointing triangle and ServiceNow NOW 3.54%increase; green up pointing triangle are all down at least 30% since the start of last year." 

But having it the worst of all could be your grandchildren reeling from job cutbacks in those niches. They could be labeled The Lost Generations of Software.

Newly Minted PhDs in Economics Face Unwelcoming Job Market: Of Course, I Left My PhD in Humanities Off the Resume

Monitor postings on Reddit subunits focused on careers and it's no longer news that PhDs, both newly minted and those already in the labor market, generally are finding the credential an obstacle in the search for a job or even contract assignments. Mr. Paul Weiss Goes to Washington

In college, backgrounders state that Brad Karp, the long-time chair of law firm Paul Weiss, toyed with the idea of a career path in politics. The specific focus was about running for Congress. Instead, though, he accepted admission to Harvard Law School (turned down the one to Yale) and that was that. Now, during the current crisis for law firms, under comprehensive attack by the Trump administration, Karp seems to be showcasing his inner politico. The guy is a smart strategist. Semafor reports that Karp has gone to Washington. There his objective seems to be to create lines of communication with a power force which, as Steve Bannon puts it, wants his firm and other elite firms out of business.
