Sex-Economy a Global Growth Business - The Economist, Skadden Former Partner David Eisman and More Agree

The March 21st - March 27th 2026 edition of The Economist documents the monetary aspects of the global sex economy. Here are snippets:

Porn - $100 billion

Exchange of Sex for money - 0.6% of females over 15 of age

Virtual companionship - to be determined.

And, OnlyFans - $7 billion. That could expand exponentially.

According to Bloomberg, OnlyFans is in advanced talks for a possible sales deal for a stake in the business. The buzz is that this is fertile territory for M&A.

To assist with those kinds of deals, Bloomberg Law just reported that OnlyFans poached from elite law firm Skadden partner David Eisman. The position is general counsel. In his 20-year career at Skadden he specialized in entertainment and media and was a key player in the M&A group in Los Angeles.

Will there be snickers throughout the legal sector about Eisner's new employer? Will Skadden CMO Luke Ferrandino have to go on the defensive?

Maybe not.

Actually, the X-Rated sector has always been innovative, ranging from payment solutions to legal theories. Those in the know know this, especially in tech. As The Economist points out, it provides real employment/entrepreneurial opportunities as many other sectors collapse. In content-creation, a shrinking field, there's still money in soft porn.

Blowing up any residual stigma about this global niche might accelerate as more knowledge workers lose their well-paying jobs. That's after investing so much in higher education and sweat equity in jumping through all the hoops. They're ready to turn radical. If they already haven't. The majority of my forced-out white-collar clients regret their blind faith in traditional career paths.

Bellying up to what's in it for them in the global sex economy could be junior lawyers. SCOTUS chief justice John Roberts, Paul, Weiss partner Brad Karp and head of Quinn Emanuel John Quinn all warn that AI will significantly dry up demand for them. Has Eisman's accepting the general counsel role at OnlyFans providing "permission" to move forward?
