Kathy Ruemmler, et al. - Epstein Ties Going Another Round (or maybe more)
Just when we assumed weighty financial issues were cooling the heat on the tedious fallout from Jeffrey Epstein associations, we might be returning to the hardening of outrage and punishment.
For example, the knock is being put on Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon for requesting Close Friend of Jeffrey Kathy Ruemmler to stay on. That's both internal and external.
FT tells the internal piece.
Bloomberg Law reports on an external development, which could pick up momentum:
"David Solomon’s decision to keep Kathryn Ruemmler at the bank once she steps down as its general counsel 'calls into question' the CEO’s 'professional judgement and fitness to continue leading ...' Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, both Democrats, wrote in a letter to the executive ..."
Today Bill Gates is also being "grilled" (term used by broadcast news media) in Congress about his relationship with Epstein. Lots has tumbled out such as the admission of the possibility of being blackmailed by the pedophile because of Gates' romantic affairs. Here is some coverage by The New York Times.
The NYT also circles back to Epstein and The Donald. The headline reads:
"Inside the White House Freakout over the Epstein Files."
The world loves scandal and again a good time is being had by all.
Meanwhile, Paul, Weiss is also back in social with negative speculation. Here on Reddit Big Law is the headline:
"What's going on at PW corporate"
Alleged is associate flight, counteracted with large-scale associate hiring. The issue is if there is flight is it because of the usual suspects - Trump dealmaking, Epstein friendship - or the culture hardening around new chair Scott Barshay. Here's a cute bit of gossip on that Reddit post:
"Heard they are giving $50k referral bonuses to incoming first years who recruit new corporate associates"
So, connecting the dots could be either 1) Brad Karp's way back maybe even to leadership could be delayed or 2) that journey could be accelerated because of possible discontent with Barshay's style. I miss Karp's thought leadership articles. When he was prominent in the legacy media I was gaining insight on navigating tricky professional situations.
In coaching, I guide knowledge workers through the ordeal of guilt by association. Handled wisely it could be survived.
