The New Classic Example of "Hutzpah" - Kathy Kuemmler

The classic example of "hutzpah" - that is unbelievable gall - had been this. A kid kills his parents. In court he demands mercy since, get this, he's now an orphan.

That same almost comical move seems to be put in play by close associate of Jeffrey Epstein Kathy Ruemmler. She could nudge out that outrageous kid to be the new forever example of hutzpah.

As a result of the disclosure of that powerhouse Epstein connection, she's stepped down from the big job at Goldman Sachs. Gifts impose obligation. She accepted many of those from Sweetie Uncle Jeffrey.

But now, as The Wall Street Journal documents, she has taken to blame others for the reputational disaster she's stuck in - which may be getting worse because of her aggressive public relations efforts. For instance, The New York Times opinion piece defending her motivation for being so chummy with Epstein didn't go well in myriad circles.

Well, here's the blame snippet of hutzpah:

"She has blamed people inside and outside Goldman who she believes have agendas against her, according to people familiar with the matter. She has said that her role as the investment bank’s general counsel, and adviser to Solomon, sometimes led to conflict with other executives who she believes have been speaking to the media and are out to get her ..."

"Out to get her ...." As if she didn't accept the over-the-top gifts from Epstein.

The comments to the WSJ article tend not to be positive. Here's one:

"I don't normally engage in conspiracy theories, but she is openly criticizing GS in public that is a huge no no. Perhaps, she has some not so nice information about GS, and so she can say what she wants. And is she was resigning, she should have resigned and left. There may be more here."

Imagine putting the knock on the employer who has given you a stay of execution. Goldman Sachs has kept her on as an advisor. In addition, her public relations outreach has thrown open the door to the national hobby of conspiracy theories. Does she have the goods on Goldman Sachs or any specific executive or executives?

In contrast, over at law firm Paul, Weiss another Friend of Jeffrey partner Brad Karp, after stepping down as chair, has maintained a low profile. He has been able to hold onto to his job and key clients such as Apollo and the NFL. When his contract is up in May 2028 he could smoothly slip into some big advisory position such as counseling business leaders. Or even launch his own firm for that sort of thing.

Karp has a promising future. Ruemmler keeps blowing her shot at one.

In coaching, I guide clients through setbacks. Often a public relations campaign such as Ruemmler's is professional suicide.
