Gloom in Boomerville: Will Monday Be Bad?

We boomers have come to expect good news from the Dow Jones. Now, we anticipate that Monday will deliver bad news. 

We follow futures like a hawk. CNBC reports: 

"Stock futures fell Sunday evening as investors responded to Moody’s downgrade of the U.S.′ credit rating"

Will this set the Dow into a downward trajectory?

Things in our boomer lives are moving in the direction of the possibility of living to 100 or more. The challenge is making our money last that long. Unretiring is becoming less an option for most. There just aren't that many jobs around anymore. So, income from investments have become "it." 

Takeaway: If you're still working, stay working. Once you stop you become rusty in everything from job search to being able to cope with the realities of the 2025 workplace.

Global Gasp: Donald Trump Tells Off Big Banking

In a virtual back-and-forth Donald Trump does a stunner. At the World Economic Forum in Davos Bank of America head Brian Moynihan conducts a casual Q&A with the new President who's being looped in on large screen. During that, Trump tells Moynihan, along with JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, to stop blocking conservatives. That is, there's an accusation that Big Banking hasn't been accepting accounts from conservatives. One could feel a global gasp. Here is more from Bloomberg. Apparent Second Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump: Will This Negatively Impact Harris-Walz Campaign?

" Donald Trump  was the target of a second apparent assassination attempt Sunday when Secret Service agents opened fire on a gunman at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla., where the former president was golfing just a few holes away." -  The Wall Street Journal , September 15, 2024 The former president is safe.  The alleged potential shooter - Ryan Wesley Routh - initially fled but was arrested soon afterward. He faces criminal charges. At this time it is unknown if he took any shots. Of course, this development has unleashed condemnation of what seems to be political violence. Also, there will be scrutiny how Routh came to possess a military-type weapon. Since he had video recording equipment there could be an outcry about how easy it is for violence to catapult a miscreant into stardom.  But there is also the very immediate issue of how this could could affect the Harris-Walz positioning in what is turning out to be a volatile and tough campaign.
